The taxi driving test assesses how you turn knowledge into a safe, comfortable journey. It includes checks before departure and decisions in actual traffic. Preparation should therefore cover passengers and vehicle use alongside ordinary driving technique.
Three parts of the assessment
The test includes a vehicle check, passenger safety and driving in urban and rural traffic. During the vehicle check, identify a possible defect and explain an appropriate response. Naming a component without knowing why its condition matters is weaker preparation than connecting it to a real risk.
Passenger safety may involve demonstrating the correct use of equipment, including protection for children. Practise with the actual equipment and its instructions. A memorised description is not enough when you need to identify a fixing point or adjust a restraint correctly.
Navigation without losing attention
You need to receive a destination, understand an instruction and plan the journey. Practise confirming an unclear address before moving. During driving, keep observation of traffic ahead of interaction with a navigation device. A convenient route is still unsuitable if you cannot drive it safely or lawfully.
If you take a wrong turn, focus on a safe recovery. Abrupt braking, an unsafe lane change or a prohibited stop creates a new problem. In training, ask an instructor to vary destinations and instructions so that you practise reasoning rather than reproducing one route.
A practical rehearsal sequence
- Check the vehicle and explain how a relevant defect would affect the journey.
- Confirm where the passenger should sit and how the required protection is used.
- Receive a destination and clarify anything ambiguous.
- Drive with suitable speed, observation and passenger comfort.
- Choose a safe and lawful place to stop at the end.
The practical driving portion lasts at least 35 minutes. That does not mean the entire appointment, including checks and other steps, is exactly 35 minutes. Allow time for the full visit and follow your booking instructions.
Documents and the test vehicle
Bring a valid category B driving licence issued in Sweden or another EEA country and the required identification. Trafikverket offers a rental car that can be booked for the test. If you use another vehicle, verify the complete current test-vehicle requirements in advance; an ordinary passenger car is not automatically approved for this appointment.
Read the cost guide for rental and test-fee examples. The study plan helps connect practical rehearsal with theory, and the requirements guide explains the licensing application.
